Toy Story Cake

This weekend I made a Toy Story themed cake for a little boy's 2nd birthday. I always have fun making the characters. And I love adding the stars coming out of the cake!

Christmas Party

My friend Amber had a Christmas party this past weekend, so I made some goodies to take over. I made a white mini Christmas tree covered in glitter. It was so pretty. Most of the guests thought it was just a centerpiece and not a cake.

I also made some mini cupcakes. I love the combination of pink icing and the shimmery white snowflakes.

And here is a picture of the set-up at the party.

Mini Christmas Tree Cakes

I made 10 of these mini Christmas tree cakes last weekend. It was a lot more time consuming that I had planned, but I think they turned out pretty cute. I will probably make one for Christmas Eve. I used a flower cut-out for the red trees and a leaf cut-out for the green trees.

Roller Skate Cake

This was the second cake I made last week. It was a roller skating theme. I made the skates out of modeling chocolate. I also used disco dust for all the decorations.

Cowboy Hat Cake

I had a super busy week last week, and the first cake I had to make was a cowboy hat. This was my first time carving a cake. I am so happy with the way it turned out. The only issue I had was with the base of the hat. I laid a piece of fondant over an actual hat to shape it. When I put it on the board and set the cake on top, it started to crack. I tried to cover up the cracks as best as I could.

Over the Hill

This is an Over the Hill cake I made a couple of weeks ago. It was chocolate cake with chocolate icing. I had a lot of fun making this cake because I came up with little saying for the tombstones like "RIP 29" and "In loving memory of my 20's". I loved how it turned out.

Star Wars cupcakes

These were made for a little boy's Star Wars birthday party. I had so much fun making these. My favorite is R2D2!

Princess/Tinkerbell

These cupcakes were made for a little girl's birthday that was Princess/Tinkerbell themed. I made little crowns with her initial and little star wands.

Mini wedding cake

This is a mini wedding cake I made for a bridal shower. It's vanilla cake with cream filling. This was my first time using the quilting pattern. Hopefully I will get to use it again.

Halloween

I didn't have any orders for Halloween this year, so I made some cupcakes for my Mom to take to work. The vampire mouth os my favorite!

I also made this mini Halloween cake. Isn't it cute?!

Housewarming cupcakes

This weekend was my cousin's housewarming party. I had some extra cupcakes, so I thought I would take them. I also decided to try out some new icing flavors. I made vanilla cupcakes with amaretto and blackberry icing. I also made chocolate cupcakes with mango and bavarian cream icing. They were a hit! I think the amaretto and mango were the most popular.

Princess baby shower cupcakes

I made these cupcakes for a baby shower that was princess themed. I made vanilla cupcakes with raspberry icing and chocolate cupcakes with mint icing. The crowns are made out of fondant and covered with edible shimmer.

Baby Shower & Bridal Shower cupcakes

This week I made these cute baby shower cupcakes. I've been wanting to try to make buttons, and I finally got a chance to do it.

I also made some monogram bridal shower cupcakes. I think they turned out very pretty. I really like the new tip I used.

Cakes, cupcakes, and cake balls...oh my!

This weekend went something like this: 9 dozen cupcakes, 2 cakes, 52 cake balls, 424 fondant cutouts, and 7 batches of icing. Needless to say, I had a busy weekend!
Saturday was the 1st birthday party for my friend's daughter. It was a rubber ducky theme. I did a smash cake and strawberry cake balls that looked like bubbles. It turned out super cute.

Saturday was also my best friend's birthday. I made her a pumpkin cake with cream cheese icing.

Sunday I had to deliver cupcakes to a fundraiser for the movie The Marriage Squeeze. I made red velvet, chocolate, and lemon raspberry cupcakes with hearts and film reels on each one.

I made it through it and luckily I had today to recover.

Baby shower & new flavors

Last week I made these cupcakes for a baby shower at my Mom's work. The theme was pink and brown, so we did flowers and butterflies.

I also tried out some new icing flavors this week. I ordered some flavors from Bake it Pretty and haven't had a chance to try them out. I made amaretto, blackberry, mango, Bavarian cream, and coffee icing. I loved them all! If anyone wants to try out any of these flavors for their order, I need a little extra time to order the flavors. I look forward to doing some more experimenting with these flavors (maybe adding them to the cake pops).

White Trash Birthday Cake

I made this cake for my cousin's birthday. He was throwing a white trash party, so I thought a can of beer would be perfect :) This is the first time I've made a cake like this, and it was probably my most stressful cake. My first attempt to cover the cake in fondant didn't work. The second attempt worked, but after I added the label, the weight of the fondant made the cake sink in front. It looked like a beat-up can of beer by the end of the day :) I will definitely have to try a different technique next time.

Everybody's Favorite - Ducks!

This was a busy weekend. Friday I got to make these super cute little ducks. I have to say, they are my favorite to make. This time the colors were yellow, lime green and magenta.

I also made these cookies. I think they are so adorable. Almost too cute to eat! I'm probably going to make these for an upcoming birthday party I'm doing.

Birthday Cake

This is a last minute birthday cake I made for my aunt. I made everyone's favorite: lemon raspberry. I can tell you from experience, it was yummy :) You can kind of tell in the second picture that I sprayed it with a shimmer.

Toy Story Birthday

I made these for a Toy Story themed birthday party. I had a lot of fun making all the characters, but I did have some trouble with Buzz and Woody. I think Mr. Potato Head is my favorite :)

I also made a small cake. The birthday boy's favorite character is Woody, so I made the cake look like his jeans. I think it turned out pretty cute.

Vegas Wedding Reception

My best friend got married in Vegas this past May, and she wanted to have a reception for everyone who didn't get to make it to the wedding. She wanted to do cupcakes and small cake. We did chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet cupcakes with fondant poker chips with the initial "P" on them.
For the cake, she wanted it to look like a dice. I've never covered a square cake in fondant before, but I thought I did a pretty good job for my first time. I also tried a new cake flavor for this cake - Heath Bar. It was yummy. I also tried a new cream filling that I could eat all day!

Here is what it looked like at the reception. Kristin's talented mom made the cake topper.

Strawberry Delight

This cake looked so good I didn't want to give it away. I tried a new filling that is to die for! Lets just say it involves pudding, Eagle Brand, and Cool Whip. Yum! I put fresh strawberries in the middle too. I covered the outside with chocolate jimmies.

Caterpillar cupcakes

I made these cupcakes for a little boy baby shower. I have been wanting to make these little caterpillars for the longest time and finally got a chance. I think they are just they cutest!

Busy Weekend

I haven't done much baking this month, but this weekend was full of cupcakes and cakes!
I made cupcakes for 2 baby showers this weekend. The 1st order was half chocolate/half vanilla with pink and violet icing.

The 2nd order was strawberry monogram cupcakes.

This weekend I made my first sheet cake. Actually it was a 1/2 sheet, but that's still pretty big. I decided to try it out for my co-workers going away cake. I underestimated the size of the cake, so after I added the decorations I felt it looked a little bare. Of course this was at midnight, so I didn't have time to make any more decorations. My co-worker is moving to Georgia, so I made a tiny model of her car driving from Texas to Georgia. I made a vanilla cake with chocolate filling. I used the filling recipe from my Whoopie Pie book. It was good, but next time I'm going to use something a bit more creamy.

After practicing on my 1st sheet cake, I had to make another one for a wedding. I made a chocolate cake that looked like the Cuban flag. It was my first time making a cake like this. I need more practice because getting the corners smooth is not easy! But I was real happy with how the cake turned out.

This week I learned that icing and Texas heat are not friends. I had some issues with my icing melting down, so I'm going to have to start making my cakes ahead of time so they can chill in the fridge. Oh the joys of baking :)
